Stop Valves

Jun 13, 2013

If you install a stop valve, it will save you the trouble of shutting off the water in the entire home for a single sink or toilet repair. In the event of a cracked water line, you can quickly shut off the water at the location of the problem with these little gadgets. You can easily install a stop valve by following these steps.
1、Determine where stop valves are needed in your home. All sinks, tubs, showers and dishwashers should have a stop valve on the hot and cold water pipe. Toilets and water heater only require a stop valve on the cold water pipe.
2、Shut off the water main for the entire house. Cut the existing pipe or tubing using a tubing cutter, leaving room to fit the stop valve. Be sure to leave sufficient piping on both ends of the compression fitting on the stop valve so it can be properly tightened.
3、Wrap the ends of each cut pipe clockwise with Teflon tape and place the stop valve between the two ends of the cut pipe. Insert the copper side of the cut pipe into end of the stop valve fitted for galvanized piping. Insert the flexible tubing into the opposite end of the stop valve.
4、Tighten the compression fitting on the stop valve using the first wrench while using the second wrench to keep the stop valve from turning.
5、Turn the water main back on and check the stop valve connections for leaks. You have learned how to install stop valves.
